Under general direction from the Architecture & Cyber Security Manager and the IT Operations Manager, the successful candidate will work with the Architecture, Cyber Security and Network Operations teams to: 
  • Install, configure, and deploy core networking equipment. 
  • Develop architecture and design documentation for the City Network; 
  • Provide guidance, knowledge transfer and operational support to the Network Operations Team; 
  • Perform root cause analysis in regards to the capacity, performance, and stability of the City Network; and 
  • Participate in Architecture & Security and IT Operations team meetings. 

The Senior Network Consultant must have experience with designing and implementing and testing Cisco networking technology, specifically Cisco 5000, 7000 and 9000 series. The Senior Network Consultant must be comfortable with understanding, implementing and testing Cisco Validated Designs as they relate to the City’s core network. 

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in a directly related field from a recognized institution plus 8 years of directly related and relevant experience. OR; 
  • Must be Cisco Certified (CCNA or CCDA or CCAr); 
  • Must be able to demonstrate significant experience and deep subject expertise in networking protocols and technologies including VLAN, VXLAN, GRE, STT, 802.1Q, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, iptables. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate significant hands-on experience performing packet-level analysis using sflow, NetFlow, PCAP/RPCAP and similar technologies 
Must have CCBA/CBAP designation; 
  • Experience in an unionized, public sector is considered an asset; 
  • Experience with F5, PaloAlto, Netscaler, Fortinet, or other security controls is considered an asset; 
  • Experience with Cisco ACI is considered an asset.
