Role: CICS Systems Infrastructure Developer
Location: Lewisville, TX
Duration: 6 Months Plus
This Software Engineering role in the Mainframe Software Engineering team is responsible for the installation, configuration, and support of highly resilient and stable Mainframe infrastructure through automated scripting rather than manual processes. In addition to Mainframe Systems Programming skills the ideal candidate will have experience with software-driven systems management using various scripting languages (such as JCL, REXX, PERL, PHP, PYTHON, JYTHON, and zOSMF Workflows) and will also have an aptitude and a passion for developing software systems to solve complex problems through automation tools. The ideal candidate will also be familiar with RESTful APIs using Swagger (or similar framework), be passionate about technology, and open to new ideas and ways to manage Mainframe infrastructure software.
General Responsibilities:
  • Design, create and implement automated or scripted processes to handle many of the responsibilities listed
  • below as well as others.
  • Installation and implementation of maintenance software product packages (CICS and OEM)
  • Research, design, develop and implement new CICS project related work
  • Research and apply proactive software maintenance
  • Provide input to management on infrastructure opportunities
  • Develop wellness health check scripts, processes, and procedures
  • Contribute to Root Cause Investigation
  • Perform daily system admin type tasks in support of the CICS environments such as for define CICS resources
  • (RDO, JCL, PROCS, etc.)
  • Work with application developers and QA support groups to resolve issues and problems with CICS.
  • Interface with application programming teams and other support areas in support of day to day tasks.
  • Develop scripting to automate common system tasks/actions, alerts and problem tickets
  • Perform daily health checks and follow up on CICS System issues
  • Monitor system resources, make tuning recommendations.
  • Implement tuning and capacity changes at the CICS level
  • Provide timely resolution to CICS software related problems and performance issues including 24/7 on call
  • support.
  • Provide on-site CICS Point Of Escalation support
  • Work with vendors and technical support teams to identify CICS software related problems.
  • Participate in the recovery of the CICS systems as part of Disaster Recovery
  • Participate in the Problem and Change management process
  • Support the CICS systems in a RACF and ACF2 environment.
  • Provide technical recommendations involving the CICS environments and tools upon request.
  • Mentor junior staff
The ideal candidate has extensive, proven experience in all technical aspects of supporting CICS which include 
  • product installations to problem resolution in a large IT environment, and possesses strong communications skills.
  • The requirement of 7-10 years of CICS Systems Programming and Internals background
  • Coding skills in order to automate and script various processes and workloads
  • “Master-level” knowledge and understanding of both CICS and OEM products and how they interact.
  • Self-motivated, self-starter, capable of working independently, strategic thinker and results-orientated
  • Ability to coordinate tasks with end users and technical teams in a high paced service oriented environment
  • Provide 24x7 support as scheduled or as required.
  • Capable of handling high risk and high visibility tasks with ease
  • Effectively manage and communicate with software vendors regarding open problem tickets
  • Strong overall problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Skills required:
  • CICS Version 5.3 experience
  • SYSplex and CICSplex knowledge (CPSM, RLS, WUI, etc)
  • SMPE knowledge for CICS and OEM-product installations/maintenance
  • Substantial hands-on experience performing CICS systems programming and problem resolution in a
  • mainframe z/OS operating system environment
  • Experience with z/OS ISPF, JCL, and JES2, etc
  • Experience with CA/ACF2 and RACF
  • REXX/CLIST or other scripting tools a plus
  • Monitoring tools experience a plus
  • CICS-related ISV tools and problem solving tools a plus
